French Revision Activity

(0)
This KS2 or Early KS3 beginners French vocabulary revision / review activity is a giant crossword puzzle, ideal for fun group work. Includes Numbers (Les Nombres / Les Numeros), Calendar (Days, Months, Dates - Les Jours, Les Mois, La Date), Greetings and Introductions, Colours (Les Couleurs), Weather (La Meteo / Le Temps), Classroom Objects (Les Objets de la Classe) and more. With around 100 clues, it is ideal for groups, with children perhaps competing against other groups to solve the puzzle as fast as possible. It works well as a fun revision activity at the start of term / back to school time to refresh students' French basics vocabulary or at the end of a term / end of the year. Alternatively, use it as an early finisher activity for completion over several lessons / weeks. In addition to the crossword solution, there's an alphabetical list of answers which you can give out for support where necessary. Or any clues not managed could be looked up online or in a French dictionary. It's fine in A4 but if you are using it with a larger group you might want to print in A3. The crossword grid and solution are included in one PDF, with the clues and support sheet in the second one. You can buy this as part of this French Revision Activities BUNDLE You might also like: French Revision Worksheets BUNDLE This activity suits a range of age groups, especially Key Stage 2 (KS2 - Year 5 / 6), KS3 (Year 7 / 8) and equivalents, depending on their level of French experience. Includes negative and positive emotions and conditions such as being cold, hot, hungry and thirsty. Students are taught to express in French how themselves and others are feeling and how to give reasons for emotions and feelings. There’s enough for multiple lessons to teach and practise phrases and sentences through speaking, reading and writing activities, and there’s differentiation too. Please check the previews to see a large sample of the resources. The grid puzzle is differentiated, with the first letter given for each word in the easier version. In the hidden word puzzle, students find translation errors and use linked letters to uncover the missing word to complete a related sentence. In the maze, students make a pathway by correctly translating emotions and feelings into French. Full answer keys   GAMES AND ACTIVITIES: Sentences Board Game: Students say aloud in French the translations of the sentences they land on. Includes some first person singular sentences but also second, third and plural too. Print and laminate boards for repeated use. Answer key included. Four in a Row Game: Print and laminate the game board. Enlarge if using with a bigger group. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box (opponents could use a different colour dry-wipe marker). Loop Game: A speaking game for groups or the whole class. Print and laminate for repeated use. The 30 cards form a continuous loop so it doesn’t matter which one you start with. “Comment te sens-tu?” Active Oral Game: Print and laminate the cards you want to use. 36 cards in the set. Students have one card each and must move around the room, asking in French how others are feeling, aiming to meet the person with the matching card. Students must reply in French, using the image on their card. Mime Game: A team game, where students mime feelings to make their teammates guess correctly in French. Square Jigsaw Puzzle: Students rearrange the puzzle pieces so that each French feelings phrases is placed next to the English translation. There’s a set with English instructions and a set with French instructions, which you might want to use for older, more able or more experienced students. Two of the cards feature vocabulary that is different in Canada, therefore these two are repeated in a Canadian version at the end of the file. Consider laminating cards if you wish to use again. If playing Scoot, place or stick the cards on desks so that all students can answer one at a time. Give students a 1-page or 2-page blank answer grid. Consider mixed ability pairs and / or supplying the Christmas vocabulary support sheet for differentiation. Set a timer so that students have 30 seconds to sit and answer a card before scooting to the next one. All students move at the same time when the allotted time is done. You can call “Scoot!” or perhaps “Allez!” each time. Ensure you explain to students in which direction they should move. When students have answered all cards, mark together. An answer key is included. Even if you don’t have 40 students, you can still use all cards if you have a big enough space to arrange them. However, if you only want the same number of cards as you have students, you can remove some of the later cards. It’s also possible to remove cards you feel might be too hard for your students. Substitute cards you don’t wish to use with the included Pause Cards, numbering them appropriately and thus allowing students to take intermittent short brain breaks.   MEGABUNDLES: French KS2 / KS3 MEGA BUNDLE 1 French KS2 / KS3 MEGA BUNDLE 2

There are 90+ spooky and scary themed words in this huge puzzle. Ideal for a whole lesson, or add this packet to your cover lesson plans or early finishers activities bank. You could return to it over several sessions. This is low prep, great for collaboration, printable, differentiated, has an answer key, and there’s even an optional hidden sentence challenge! Best not used with absolute beginners, as it’s designed to review AND expand students’ existing vocabulary, to provide a challenge. Depending on experience and ability of students and level of support given, this can work with Key Stage 3 and 4 and beyond. Please click on the preview file to check suitability for your students. Fun: Giant crosswords are enjoyable to complete. Low prep: Great for sub lessons and busy times. Flexible: Can fill a whole lesson or more, or be completed over multiple days. Early finishers: Great as an early finisher activity or extension, maybe to be competed over several sessions. Collaboration: Although it can be used for individuals, it’s especially good for pairs or small groups. Differentiation: Alternative clue page & vocab support page. Challenge: Fun hidden sentence extension! Printable: PDF file - 15 pages.   HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE THIS ACTIVITY: There are 2 versions of the clue sheets – one with just the word itself in English (to be translated into French) and an easier version with the first letter given. There’s a larger print version of the latter one too. Choose whether to provide the alphabetical answer list, perhaps just to support certain students, or distribute it only when students have done as much as they can independently Consider using mixed-ability groups Decide whether to allow access to online or traditional dictionaries, perhaps later when students have completed as much as they can independently Consider whether to use the hidden sentence challenge version (students use a blank grid with stars printed on certain squares, and then put the letters together from the star boxes to spell out a hidden word). There are 2 versions of the recording sheet for this challenge, should you wish to use them, and separate answer keys Early finishers could be directed to online sources to check out the pronunciation of unfamiliar words Whatever you choose, I hope your students have as much fun completing it as I did compiling it! You might want to expand the crossword if using with larger groups but if you can’t, it will still work in standard size. YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE: French Halloween BUNDLE French KS2 / KS3 MEGA BUNDLE 1
